Sweet Spirulina Shot Recipe
This week I’ve condensed the regular smoothie down into a shot, as we are dealing with Spirulina here. The idea came around when I wanted to get my quick hit high of nutrition without being sick! I’m not gonna lie, I struggle myself to keep this one down which is why I made my Sweet Spiulina Shot Recipe so that it goes down quickly and your left with a sweet taste rather then the odd, unpalatable one that has you pushing that packet of Spirulina right to the back of your cupboard never to be seen again. Which is something we defiantly don’t want as Spirulina is an amazing super food that we would benefit from hugely. This blue-green algae plant has quite a powerful nutrition profile, let’s not forget that!
Spirulina
is an organism that is grown in fresh and sea water. It is a type of bacteria called Cyanobacteria known better as blue algae. Spirulina was a favourite among the Aztecs way back when and was made popular when NASA proposed it to be grown in space to be used by astronauts! A single teaspoon of Spirulina contains 4 grams of protein, around 1 gram of fat, both omega 3 and 6. As well as iron, magnesium, vitamins B1, B2 and B3 and copper. Spirulina also detoxes heavy metals especially arsenic , lowers cholesterol, blood pressure and chances of strokes. Strengthens the immune system, boosts energy levels and supports cellular health.
Just 3 gram serving contains;
2800% more beta-carotene than carrots
3900% more iron than spinach
600% more protein than tofu
280% more antioxidants than blueberries
Apple
are rich in antioxidants which helps our bodies prevent and repair oxidation damage as well as being rich in fibre specifically pectin which is classed as a soluble, fermentable and viscous fiber, a combination that gives it a huge list of health benefits from reducing cholesterol , preventing cancers, prevents the risks of Alzheimer’s, asthma and Parkinson’s to keeping your heart healthy and my Sweet Spirulina Shot Sweet! I have found that pairing Apple with Spirulina is really the best way to hide that taste.
